Tom Loraine Passing
(1938 – 2005)
Kodiak Enterprises, Inc. is sad to announce that Tom Loraine, a part-time employee and long-time friend, has succumbed to cancer, on Sunday, the 13th of November 2005, at home with his family present.
Tom had a 20+ year career in the fire service, achieving the rank of Chief of the Department for the Fort Wayne Fire Department. Later in his career, Tom started a pyrotechnics firm specializing in the display of large firework shows throughout the Midwest. He became an expert in firework shows, pyrotechnic devices, and codes and standards associated with these devices.
Tom came to Kodiak in September of 1998 when Kodiak needed a pyrotechnic expert to assist in a New Jersey injury case. He served as our consultant and later became a part-time employee and consultant. There simply was no better expert than Tom with his level of knowledge in this subject and ability to communicate that information.
Aside from Tom being an employee, he was also a good friend. Dan Churchward, Kodiak’s founder, first met Tom and his wife when they all took Emergency Medical Technician training with the FWFD Academy in 1981. Since then, Tom has made himself available to Dan and Kodiak whenever he was needed. Several fine games of golf were played, cigars smoked, and meals enjoyed with Tom.
It has been a pleasure and an honor to know Tom. He will be long missed and never forgotten. We wish his wife, Virginia, his son, Matt, his daughter, Michelle, and the rest of his family, peace in these difficult times. If you wish to read the obituary notes on his death, please go to:
